      <![CDATA[<p>Benefit Recital featuring Matthew Young, viola with Ryo Yanagitani, piano</p>

<p>Matthew Young is a violist with the Minnesota Orchestra and winner of the 2007-2008 McKnight Fellowship for Performing Musicians and a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music.</p>

<p>Ryo Yanagitani is acclaimed as one of Canada’s most promising young concert artists.  He was a prize winner in the 2006 International Piano-e-Competition and a Laureate of the Hilton Head International Piano Competition.</p>

<p><img border="0" src="/images/c-rodland.jpg" </a></td><br />
<b>Carol Rodland</b> made her debut as a viola soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the age of seventeen and has subsequently performed to critical acclaim throughout North America and Europe.  </p>

<p>Recent performance highlights have included solo recitals at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall and Boston’s Jordan Hall, concerto appearances with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and the Davos Festival Orchestra, as well as chamber music concerts as guest violist of the Henschel Quartett in Europe and North America. </p>

<p>She is also a frequent performer with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and has collaborated recently with both the Borromeo and Colorado String Quartets. Her debut cd of American viola works will be released next year by Crystal Records. </p>

<p>Ms. Rodland holds Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees from the Juilliard School, where she studied with Karen Tuttle, as well as an Aufbaustudium Diplom from the Musikhochschule Freiburg, where as a Fulbright Scholar she studied with Kim Kashkashian.  She has won first prizes at the Washington International Competition, the Artists International Auditions, and the Juilliard Concerto Competition, as well as the Universal Editions Prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition. </p>

<p>Also a devoted teacher, Ms. Rodland has held viola professorships at the Musikhochschule “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin (1996-2001), at Arizona State University (2001-2002), and as Guest Faculty at the Juilliard School (2003-4). In the fall of 2002, she joined the viola faculty of the New England Conservatory, where she was recently recognized with the Krasner Award for Excellence in Teaching.</p>]]>

      <![CDATA[<p>Mid-Morning Concert for All Souls Day</p>

<p><b>Friday, November 2, 2007 • 11 - 11:50am</b><br />
St. Olaf Catholic Church, 215 South 8th Street, Minneapolis</p>

<p>Pastiche is an ensemble of performers from the faculty of the joint music department of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University in Minnesota. </p>

<p>Pastiche performs an extraordinarily diverse repertoire composed for combinations of singers and instrumentalists from classical to jazz and beyond. <br />
This concert will feature <b>J. David Arnott</b> on the viola (past president of the Minnesota Viola Society), Ed Turley at the piano and Bruce Thornton on clarinet. </p>

<p>Musical selections include the Mozart Trio for Viola, Clarinet, and piano (the Kegelstatt Trio), Schubert’s Litany for All Souls Day (transcribed by William Primrose) for viola and piano.  </p>

<p>Free and open to the public. <br />
